The Hornets (25th Anniversary Album Launch)

‘The Hornets are steeped in the blues, they rise out of the Yarra Valley delta meeting at the mythical crossroads where Chicago grit has blown in. This is an earthy blues band with a pedigree of outstanding musicians…’. the Age’s Warwick McFadyen about their latest album Lowdown in Lockdown.

The band features its three constant members: singer/songwriter and guitarist Craig Horne (who first burst onto the scene in the 1970s with Cracka Horne and the Cracka Fats), ARIA Hall of Famer guitarist Jeff Burstin (Jo Jo Zep, Black Sorrows), ARIA Award winning keyboardist Bruce Haymes (Archie Roach, Paul Kelly) plus the driving rhythm section of Chris Tabone (Badloves) on drums and Yuri Pavlinov (Bamboos, Cat Empire) bass.

The Hornets have been a mainstay of Melbourne and Australia’s blues and roots scene for two and a half decades and will be celebrating their quarter of a century by launching their brand new album Lowdown in Lockdown at George Lane, February 6.

Featuring special guests Lindsay Field, Steve Williams, (both from John Farnham’s band) Sam Lemann, plus all the regulars, songs like Nothing Stays the Same and the stunning gospel fuelled Distracted by Distractions capture the blues and boredom of musicians being trapped at home and denied the stage for 18 months, while rowdy opener I Ain’t Drunk (Just Drinking), is soaked in the relief and release of winning freedom.

The Hornets will play songs off the new album plus classics from their back catalogue – with a strong representation of material from their prescient 2014 album Dangerous Dancing with its rallying call for strong action on climate change.

Join us at George Lane for the launch of their latest album - ‘Lowdown In Lockdown’.
