PETER FARNAN COMES HOME TO THE GEORGE FOR THE LAUNCH OF HIS ALBUM, ‘HOME’.
Peter spent dark, sweaty evenings upstairs from George Lane at the Crystal Ballroom with his post-punk band SERIOUS YOUNG INSECTS. As the 80s unfolded he moved into the pop mainstream with BOOM CRASH OPERA before establishing a career as a theatre composer and sound designer.
His new solo album, ’HOME', sees Peter returning to his art-pop roots with music that is both idiosyncratic and universal, and which echoes some of the artists - The Beatles, Talking Heads, XTC - who first inspired him. Peter’s band even opened for XTC in the Ballroom.
Sharing the bill with Peter is CATHERINE MCQUADE. Catherine’s recent album, titled ‘ KISS HIM GOODBYE’, brings together all of her experience as an award winning film composer, chanteuse and bass player. The result is a rich, dream pop mix of Jazz, Latin, Classical, electronica and ‘60s film score references.
It’s no small coincidence that before playing with DECKCHAIRS OVERBOARD, Catherine was also playing shows at the Crystal Ballroom as bass player with post-punk band, THE EARS at the same time as Peter. Peter’s earliest recording experience was producing the first and only recorded version of The Ear’s song, Dogs In Space. That band and that song were the basis of the Richard Lowenstein movie of the same name.
Shared histories, location and rich musical legacies come together in this matinee double bill.
Peter will also be joined by a guest appearance from Rebecca Barnard for this show.
