Spirit Songs & Stories.

“Spirit songs is about the songs that naturally form, direct from some other place, without intellect getting in the way, its about keeping it as authentic to the original transmission as possible”

2023 Has been a productive year for Richie Lewis, otherwise known artistically as Richie Weed, branching out from Tumbleweed, the band he formed and has fronted for the past 30 years. Throughout the 90s Tumbleweed achieved considerable success, recording 5 studio albums and touring nationally and internationally with some of the biggest names in the business, Nirvana, Iggy Pop and Ramones to name 3, they continue to write and record and perform.

But this year Richie has been concentrating on solo endeavours, curating a captivating show titled "Spirit Songs and Stories" , weaving tales and reinterpreting songs and melodies that span his extensive career, creating an intimate and mesmerizing experience for audiences drawing from Tumbleweed, Hot Rollers, Richie and the Creeps, as well songs off his forthcoming debut solo album.

The highly anticipated album, showcasing his evolution as a singer songwriter, promises something fresh and unique, Kicking off the excitement, the first single "Pure Evil" is slated for release in January, setting the stage for a series of shows in Melbourne. These performances not only unveil his new musical direction but also delve into the rich tapestry of his 30-year career, drawing from his diverse musical ventures.

Richie will be joined by a talented cast of musicians with Natalie De Silver (Guitar, organ and flute) Steve O Brien (percussion) Matt Houston (Bass and Harmonium) and Luke Spook (mellotron and Lapsteel).

In 2023, Richie expanded his horizons by delving into acting and contributing his musical prowess to the critically acclaimed play "the Hum," written and directed by German based playwright, Fiona Leonard that draws inspiration from Richie's own life experiences. This foray into theatre showcased Richie's ability to intertwine his life's narrative with artistic expression.

“It’s a chance for me to introduce people to my new songs, as well as tell a few stories about my life as well as reinterpret some old favourites in a weird and interesting way” Richie.
