Delaney Davidson (NZ) + J.P. Shilo

Well known for his hypnotic and original One man and his Ghost Orchestra show, enigmatic multi-instrumentalist Delaney Davidson both defines and commands his own unique realm in the shadowy musical world some call ‘Country-Noir’ or ‘Gothic Americana’.

Singer-Songwriter, Noir Protagonist, Promotional Coyote, One-Man Band, Production Svengali. Part wandering minstrel, part traveling salesman, one foot on the stage and one in the road. 8 solo albums out and always one on the way. Over thirteen years of tireless touring across oceans and continents. Awards here. Collaborations there. A non-stop whirlwind.

Delaney Davidson - Strange I Know

Over a series of albums and compelling live performances he has presented his often jarring yet beautiful songs like some strange spook outlaw phantom, more at home walking through the pines at midnight under a full moon.

His inspirations range from Hank Williams and Howlin’ Wolf to The Birthday Party, from Johnny Cash through Suicide to Buster Keaton. Reveling in the darker side of things, Davidson’s lyrical content dredges up classic murder ballads, songs with a deep insight into the human condition, and hypnotic trance takes on old blues classics. All liberally laced with an abiding sympathy for human quirks, failure, foibles and triumphs. His rumpled stage persona combines an unconventional and unforgettable voice with a wry and twisted sense of humor.

Support for the night is J.P. Shilo.

J.P. Shilo is something of a Mystery Man.

He has spent the last decade helping to create the sounds for such luminaries as Mick Harvey, Rowland S. Howard, The Blackeyed Susans, Adalita and also his very own Hungry Ghosts.

In 2009, following the death of his friend Rowland S. Howard, there was a chasm left by Howard's untimely passing, a void which J.P. stepped into almost by accident. By accepting the task offered by These Immortal Souls & his Pop Crimes band-mates in channeling Rowland's spirit in the form of ensuing tribute shows, something very strange happened - J.P. stepped out from the shadows and into the spotlight. A role he was unaccustomed to but soon proved he was more than capable of - holding centre stage.

Long-time friend & co-conspirator on many seminal records at Birdland Studios, the elusive and reclusive Lindsay Gravina, saw at these shows the chrysalis of Shilo's talent, from their initial connections as a moody instrumentalist in Hungry Ghosts into that of a fully-fledged singer/gun-slinger/songwriter.
